About
Through his twenty-five years of professional music experience across the world, Curtis Brewer has earned a sterling reputation in education, performance, and production. He is an award-winning and internationally-recognized musician that graduated summa cum laude with his masters degree in Jazz Guitar performance from Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville.
His performing pursuits has led him across the U.S. with Kentucky Knife Fight (four-time winner of the alt-magazine Riverfront Times “Best Rock Band” and StL Post-Dispatch “Best Band” awards) and across Europe as music director for artists Bette Smith, The Clubs, and The Curtis J Social.
His teaching style incorporates the diverse musical experiences of his studies in American music, blending his university jazz education, country and blues traditions of his hometown, and the rock music that shaped his generation. Early influences from Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Paige led him further to such guitar luminaries as Prince, Marc Ribot, and Brent Mason. He has transferred those influences to the stage and the classroom, instructing students in diverse styles ranging from riff-heavy grunge to twang-tinged rock while simultaneously honoring every shade of music around it. Once the Midwest’s best kept secret, Brewer now plants his roots deep in the New York music community as a highly regarded studio musician, collaborator, and music instructor.
